Student in class

UPark is successful because of the involvement of dedicated parents, grandparents, and community members. Learn more about ways to get involved in UPark.

Most teachers have volunteer requests for their individual classrooms so work with your child’s teacher to find out information on volunteering in the classroom. If you plan on being a volunteer at the school, DPS requires a background check to be completed online. Please click on the green DPS Volunteer Portal button found here to complete the background check. You will receive a confirmation email once your background check has cleared. Please stop by the main office with a picture ID on your first day of volunteering and sign the DPS Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement.

PTA Committees

Please contact the PTA at uparkpta@gmail.com if you’d like to become involved in one of the committees listed below.

Auction Committee

The Auction Committee plans the biggest party and fundraiser of the UPark year as parents and staff come together in the spring to support our school. Auction items include donated items from local businesses, student artwork, and the popular student and parent experiences.

Apple Campaign Committee
Entrance

Apple is our direct giving campaign and is run by two PTA members who approach UPark families for donations. These co-chairs are tasked with tracking the donations, sending letters to the community, publishing flyers, and otherwise promoting the campaign. The bulk of the work occurs August through October.

Garden Committee

The Garden Committee helps foster a love of the earth through education and cultivation of plants in our school community garden. Each spring they plant seeds indoors under grow lights and eventually transplant them to one of our many growing beds in the Learning Landscape. In the fall, students and volunteers harvest the vegetables and flowers and sell them at our student-run farmer’s market. The committee is collaborating with classroom teachers to incorporate the gardens into classroom learning.

Wellness Committee

An award-winning program that advocates for healthy eating and physical activity at school and home. Assists with Field Day, morning fun runs, and more! Learn more about the Wellness Program.

Backpack Program

Procure donations of food from local stores and organize weekly deliveries of healthy food to our students in need.

Grant Writing Committee

The Grant Writing Committee identifies opportunities in the community that would be a good fit for UPark, then collaborates with school administration and teachers to write and follow up on these grants.

Business Sponsorship and Community Partners

The Sponsorship Committee identifies UPark family businesses and community businesses to sponsor the school, including participation in school events, banners on the school fence, and more. The committee oversee this process, make sure commitments are being fulfilled, and maintains our relationships with sponsors.

Outreach, Marketing, and Technology

Assist with neighborhood and school outreach to keep everyone informed by writing or editing our UWhoo school newsletter for all homes within our DPS boundary, maintaining the school website and app, or helping with the layout and design of the yearbook.
