PTA - January 2009
PTA MEETING MINUTES, 01-15-09
In Attendance: Kelsey Eikermann, Cathy Kidder, Anne Wall, Terri Allsup, Dana Williams, Nancy Whittemore, Brittany Call, Amy Homburger, Dawn Miller, Katie Mochan, Cindy Mewhirter, Jon Pinnow, Tami Patzer
Principal Dana Williams shared that enrollment for next year is projected to stay the same or increase. Budget amounts from the district should be out the first week of February, and staffing will take place right after budget this year. The long range hope is that each grade will have three classrooms. The February CSC meeting will cover details on what financial commitment the PTA will be asked to make.
Wendy Brisso from Innisbrook introduced their school supply program to us. This is designed to offer a service to parents who would be happy to write a check rather than shop. Profit margins are decided by the school. Supplies can be shipped to school or to the homes. Products are brand name and packages include extras (stickers, note pads). There is a 4% early reservation bonus, which is not binding to force us to go with the program. The membership chose to put in the reservation to secure the bonus should the program be a go. Class lists were provided to Wendy for quotes.
Committee Reports:
Fundraising: Our fundraisers continue to be successful. Thank you to everyone who donated to the Apple Campaign in December. We were able to meet the End of Year Challenge for the matching donation. Grocery cards are averaging over $700/month in profit for the school! Barnes and Noble in December brought in $658. Family Nights Out at local restaurants continue to be fun gatherings and bring in money – which will now be directed to the school’s literacy program.
Art Night is Feb 4th and being organized by Lisa Beegle.
Math Night is Feb 24th and will be a dinner and math games event. Volunteers are needed. The dinner will be donated or subsidized by PTA and no charge to families.
Home Tour: Planning is well underway. Major sponsors have been secured, other ads in the brochures still available. DU sororities and fraternities will be contacted for volunteers. A bake sale coordinator is needed to co-chair with Kelsey.
Marketing: Banners are up at the front entrance.
Fundraising: A letter is going out for the Apple campaign.
Wellness: Whole Foods is on board for the Backpack Program. Information will be communicated regarding healthy options for Valentines Day. Wellness will coordinate on assisting with CSAP breakfasts and providing information on the right types of foods to eat before testing. The UPark Health Fair will be February 27th.
Garden Club: A new club sponsored by the Garden Committee, proposed to meet 2x monthly, including summer months. An interest night will be held in February. Brittany Call is coordinating.
Yearbook Request: We are collecting candid photos for the yearbook. Pictures can be submitted on a CD or USB (they will be returned) or in prints, if professionally done. The prints cannot be returned so please send in duplicates. Pictures can be dropped off in the office. Please contact Dawn Clark at 303-759-0597 or dawn.montgomery@comcast.net
