From the Principal: February 2009
Dana Williams
I UPark!
In honor of St. Valentine, each February we share messages of love with those we care about. In our school community, we are surrounded by teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and students, who truly make our school a place worth loving.
Each day, I am awed by the contributions parents and guardians make to our school. Whether volunteering at school, serving on a committee or helping a child at home, hundreds of you make a difference for kids each day.
You may have noticed us sending a green ½ page home each week with a big hand on it. This is a part of our efforts to collect, document and celebrate the ways our families support their children at home. By completing this half page with your child each week and returning it with his or her homework, you are sharing this contribution with us. We intend to post the total number of minutes our school community spends supporting their children at home, as well as the many hours spent by those volunteering at the school. We are also teaming with the Mile High Parent Campaign, which is a district wide effort to celebrate families supporting their children. By adding your e-mail address to the back of the green sheet, you will automatically be entered to win prizes such as ballet tickets. The goal is to reach a total of 5,280 minutes in a year (or 30 minutes a day- 5 days a week.)
Would you like to put your unique talents to work at UPark? Are you looking for new ways to get involved? I have listed various ways to get involved below. We are also excited to kick-off our new Volunteer Committee to help organize and promote volunteer opportunities at UPark. The first meeting for this committee was Wednesday, Jan 28th. Please watch the weekly bulletin and the marquee board outside for upcoming meetings of all of our parent groups. All are welcome!
